Forest Park Seventh-day Adventist Christian School

Wild About Learning in Kindergarten, First and Second
Welcome to our class, where we are wild about learning and wild about Jesus! We pray, we sing, we learn, we have fun, and we are family.

The early elementary years lay the foundation for the rest of our education. We try to provide high-quality educational expectations and rigor, allowing opportunities for academic advancement and/or remediation. Our curriculum includes Reading Plus, Raz-Kids and Headsprout, Stairway to Reading, Zoo-Phonics, Chall-Popp Phonics, Saxon Math, Exploring His Power Bible program, By Design Science, Scott Foresman Social Studies, A Reason for Spelling, A Reason for Handwriting, and Money-Savvy Kids. We have three recesses a day and teach physical education and art, as well as music with a
certified music teacher

The curriculum is enriched and
supplemented with many activities, including monthly STEM projects, worship activities and Bible memorization, music programs at the church, weekly chapel with the church pastor, hatching chicken eggs and butterflies, experiments, lots of field trips, service opportunities, presentations, projects, school spirit days, singing, writing, games, visitors to the classroom, buddies, and character development. A teacher's aide and numerous volunteers are able to give extra attention to individual students.

I think this quote from Ellen White in her book Education (p. 13) clearly outlines what our class is all about: "True education means more than the persual of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being, and with the whole period of existence possible to man. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come."
